Liner Notes

January 2025 – Brooklyn is in a fury at the rare blooming of a corpse flower at the Botanical Garden. I, part perfumer, part dreamer, needed a sniff at peak stink. When I saw it announced on the BBG socials that it was crowning, I dropped everything and made haste. I waited in line for 10 mins (1 hour later the line was 100+ people long).

As I entered the building where this savage beauty laid bare her treasure, I was assaulted by humid, rotten garbage. The closer I got, the more intense it became. I finally got my turn & stuck my schnoz into the bowels of this corpse flower.

TRIGGER WARNING: it smelled like a baby diaper pail in a rotten fish tank full of rubber lily bulbs & olives. Disgusting. But, in the moment you have to remain calm and search the nose-mind system for a beast so dank.

I left beaming with possibility. Soon the flowers emerged from the ground. Earth was reborn. I thought - What if all that rot in the corpse flower could be cleaned of its stink and made beautiful again: rubber lily bulbs flowering into soft white flowers, boggy wetlands supporting fresh cedar buds, green banana ripening, tuberose absolute (which smells one part flower/one part swamp) acting as a bridge between dark materials & those of radiant light. Contrasts like grapefruit – bitter, yet fresh. Olive – earthy, yet green. Dark papyrus. Light freesia.

The beautiful corpse flower resurrected from dank Earth.

Olfactory Notes

Olive

Olive is a familiar scent and flavor produced in perfumery as an accord between green aromas and leather. A note of contrasts—oily, balmy, bright, yet dark.

Lily

Lily is a construct—the flower does not give its oil through extraction. When realistic, lily is a frosty complex flower that is spicy and animalic.

Bog Cedar

Water-resistant Atlantic White Cedar thrives in swampy boglands of the Northeast. Experienced in its natural environment, it gives a contrast of wet Earth and dry, clean wood.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Resurrected Corpse Flower perfume smell like?

Resurrected Corpse Flower is a floral eau de parfum that plays dark against light. Bitter grapefruit, green olive and balm of Gilead open into a heart of Madonna lily, tuberose absolute and freesia. The base of wet bog cedar, papyrus and green banana adds earthy, swampy depth. The result is a radiant white floral grounded in damp earth and fresh woods.
Does Resurrected Corpse Flower smell like a real corpse flower?

No. Resurrected Corpse Flower imagines the corpse flower's notorious stench reborn as something beautiful. Inspired by a corpse flower at peak bloom at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the fragrance keeps its impressions of lily, olive and wet earth with the rot cleaned away. What remains is a lush, green floral with only an earthy echo of the swamp.
Is Resurrected Corpse Flower a lily perfume?

Yes. Madonna lily is the heart of Resurrected Corpse Flower, supported by tuberose absolute and freesia. Unlike sweet or powdery lily perfumes, it is green, earthy and slightly bitter, with olive, grapefruit and bog cedar adding contrast. It's a strong choice for anyone who loves unexpected floral perfumes or white flowers with a dark unconventional twist.
Is Resurrected Corpse Flower unisex?

Yes. Like every D.S. & DURGA fragrance, Resurrected Corpse Flower is unisex. It reads as an unconventional floral rather than a traditionally feminine one. It's made for anyone drawn to white flowers with earthy, woody depth.
